Who says you can’t break a few rules and make your wedding completely your own? While there are certain requirements that we need to follow, there’s no harm in deviating from what’s traditional to put a unique spin on your wedding. Whether it’s a completely unconventional gesture or a one-of-a-kind detail, there are many ways you can personalize your wedding meaningfully. Break away from the mold and take inspiration from these unique traditions as seen in real weddings.
Walking Down the Aisle Together
The usual order of walking down the aisle would be the groom and his parents first, then the bride will have her grand entrance as the finale of the procession. JM and Agatha, however, are firm believers in creating new traditions together. Walking down the aisle side-by-side was their way of symbolizing that they will be holding each other’s hands for the rest of their lives. How sweet is that? If you don’t mind foregoing your grand reveal (and ignoring superstitions), then you can also consider walking hand-in-hand from the entrance up to the altar.
First Song
If you aren’t completely comfortable dancing, then it’s completely okay not to have a choreographed first dance as a couple. But if you are music lovers, then why not have a first song number instead? Lance and Tricia planned a song number during their wedding reception and it sure looked fun! Meanwhile, Ian and Bianca took it to the next level by having a mini concert with their colleagues. You can perform your theme song as a couple or why not compose a song just for your wedding?
Flower Grannies
When all is well and it’s safe for our grandparents to join in celebrations with us again, it would be so beautiful to have them play a special part at your wedding. When you have grandmas you are close to and who helped raise you, it would be great to honor them. During their wedding, Felixia chose to have her grandmothers as flower grannies for her entourage. Her Lola even carried a sign that says “Here Comes My Apo.” Members of your entourage are completely up to you! If you don’t have young nieces or nephews, an entourage composed of your adult friends and relatives would definitely be just as great.
Dog Entourage
Your furbabies are members of your family, too! You can definitely have them as part of your wedding when you make the right preparations just like professional dog trainers Francis and Irene. They successfully managed to have all seven of their beloved dogs walk as members of the entourage and they were all adorable! As long as your venue permits pets, you can consider making your furry baby your flower girl or ring bearer.
Coffee Toast
The traditional choices would be wine or champagne for your toast as a couple, but why not make it more fun for the both of you by drinking your favorite beverage? Mikael Daez and Megan Young had a coffee toast at their wedding since they are avid coffee lovers! They even poured their coffee in fancy glasses. Of course they also had a coffee cart for their guests to enjoy as well. So, think about your favorite drink as a couple – it could be a cocktail or milk tea even – and have a memorable toast fit for the two of you!
No Entourage
At the height of the pandemic, many couples were forced to let go of their entourage to adhere to health and safety protocols. But should you choose to keep your guest list at the minimum, even if your venue already permits a higher number of attendees, it’s a-okay to forego the entourage. As long as you have witnesses or principal sponsors to sign the marriage contract, you can opt out of having bridesmaids or groomsmen just like Carlo and Maxine. If you prefer having a shorter procession and less frills, you can have just the two of you with your parents walk down the aisle. After all, you can still take lots of photos with your friends after the ceremony!
A Colored Wedding Dress
While it’s traditional to wear white, you can also express your personality more by choosing a colored wedding dress. Actress Dianne Medina opted for a soft gray color and she looked like royalty in her ball gown! Don’t be afraid to explore colors and prints that would make your dress extra special and truly unique to you.
There really are so many ways you can personalize your wedding. You can even get matching tattoos, wear couple sneakers, or distribute a newsletter about your love story! A wedding becomes so much more memorable when you’re able to reflect who you are as a couple.
