This Destination Wedding in Barcelona is a Fairytale Come to Life!

Call it a stroke of serendipity or destiny. Today’s story is about a couple who met when they were in high school, but lost touch because the guy went abroad for college and to pursue a golf career. They met again in a bible study group when he came back to the Philippines. They never left each other’s side since then, and they spent their days learning more about one another by trying out new restaurants and traveling together!

If there’s any way to my heart, it’s through food. Every time Raph and I would go on dates, I would always ask him to bring me to a Spanish restaurant. Raph knew me so well and he knew it was always a dream of mine to have a destination wedding,” shares Bride Joanna.

Raph and Joanna had three years to prepare for their fairytale come-to-life wedding. Joanna shares that they really took their time to plan and communicate with their suppliers what they really wanted for their big day. For this destination wedding to also be successful, they learned to delegate tasks and welcomed the willingness of their family and friends to transport their wedding details to Spain. She also emphasized the need to not go overboard in planning, and to pin down non-negotiable wedding details.

Learn more about their story as told by Bride Joanna, complemented by these charming photos by Pat Dy.

Raph and Joanna

When I saw Castell de Sant Marcal, we knew right away that it was the perfect place for us. It looked like a castle from our childhood fairytales. How can I say no to that?

The first two looks I had was conceptualized by Michael Leyva. He has been my designer since my 18th birthday and he was there for all my milestones ever since.

In Spain, they don't focus too much on the programs and AVPs, but they do know how to party. We wanted everyone to let loose and have fun. So, we asked our planner to transform the inside of the castle into a Disco Jungle.

It was important for us that our families and friends have an opportunity to get to know each other, experience new places together, and simply enjoy each other's company in such a beautiful, and buzzing city like Barcelona
