How to Plan Your Wedding in Less Than 5 Months

A wedding usually takes at least one whole year to plan, but there are some instances when you just don’t have that amount of time. Maybe you need to go abroad for your job, the paperwork is about to expire, or you just don’t want to wait too long anymore.

Don’t fret! The amount of time you have in your hands may seem short and swift, but it’s still a long stretch for the focused and determined. Wedding planning can get really overwhelming at the beginning, but once you get the ball rolling, you can pick up the momentum and make your day the best ever regardless of the preparation time. How? Sit back and relax for a moment, and read through this guide:

How to Plan Your Wedding in Less than 5 Months

Do's

Set your budget
This tip always tops the list because whether your wedding is simple or grand, intimate or big, it will entail expenses. With a budget in mind (and on hand), your next steps in planning will be easier to determine and carry out.

Without your wedding date and time, the planning would not move at all! Details such as invitations and fittings are anchored on the wedding date. As soon as you set your wedding date in stone, work backwards and see realistically how much time you have.

Many couples are unaware of the paperwork that go with wedding planning. While some documents may be ordered online (e.g. PSA birth certificates) or may be requested with the help of an authorized person  (e.g. baptismal or confirmation certificates) some, such as the marriage license, need your personal appearance. Most of these papers either cannot be retrieved right away or have expiration dates, so they need to be prioritized.

Ask for help
Whether this means hiring a coordinator or tapping your siblings, closest cousins, or entourage for help, go for it! Wedding planning may be a task, but it’s also a once-in-a-lifetime journey that you will learn from and reminisce later on. Involve as much people as you can – it will mean the world when little things are off your shoulders, and you’ll have bonus core memories along the way!

Do you have a dream wedding dress designer? Do you wish to have a reception with exceptional styling, or a program everyone wouldn’t forget? Focus your energy on these first, so you don’t attend to so many things at the same time. Doing this will also ensure that you get the wedding of your dreams!

Finalize your Principal Sponsors
Don’t miss out on the importance of asking your principal sponsors ahead of time! Weddings in the Philippines require at least two witnesses to stand in your presence and to sign your marriage contract. Let your witnesses know the date of your wedding right away and make arrangements if necessary so they will be able to attend your wedding day.

Write everything down
Schedules, appointments, expenses – do write them down so you don’t miss out on anything! Trust us when we say that solutions are within reach if we know what we’re dealing with. Remember, out of sight, out of mind!

Dont's

Lock in small details first
We get it, details take time and effort, but it’s also the same reason why we advise you to not attend to these first. When the non-negotiables are set in place, that’s when you think about if your time and budget can still accommodate extras and gimmicks. For example, don’t decide on ceiling decorations prior to booking your reception venue. Remember, you have to prioritize the must-haves over what’s nice-to-have.

Disregard supplier contracts
No matter how short you think your time is, always read and go over supplier contracts. You don’t want to have wedding nightmares just because you skipped reading or asking a question about a clause. The tighter your schedule is, the more meticulous you should be in the contracts.

Let others control you
While we mentioned you can always ask for help, don’t just let anyone take the steering wheel away from you. It’s still your wedding. You have the final say on everything, including the small details such as the guest list and the program flow. Make time to review everything at least weeks before your wedding day.

Compare your timeline to others
Avoid time and energy eaters! Believe it or not, many people will share their input in your planning. While some will be helpful, others just might throw you off track! Weddings have different timelines, and what worked for others might not exactly work for you. So, ditch all the negative vibes and just enjoy your wedding planning!
