Of Dream Dresses: This Bride Knew Exactly How to Find “The One”

Bride Chelsea has always envisioned herself wearing a couture, fully feathered gown at her wedding. However, when she and her Groom, Adrian, decided on a garden venue, her wedding dress dreams suddenly needed to change. A feather gown no longer felt like the right match. She then decided that her new dream dress should be “flattering but with an avant-garde touch.” After visiting a few bridal stores, she realized that beaded gowns, lace, and tulle dresses weren’t for her. So, this bride did more research and consulted a trusted designer until she finally found ‘the one.’ It was a classy silk dress that fits her like a glove. “The off-shoulder draping gave this dramatic effect that the dress is almost slipping off. It showed skin in a way that was refined,” says Chelsea.

Adrian and Chelsea

"My dress is heavily inspired by the Noa dress by Danielle Frankel. I chose it because its form-fitting shape was flattering." Chelsea, Bride

"I shortlisted designers who I saw worked with silk a lot. It’s not an easy fabric to work with and my design doesn’t leave much room for error, with no beads or lace to cover any imperfections." Chelsea, Bride

"Luckily, I found Ushi Sato through Instagram. I got in touch right away and sent him a very detailed four-page PowerPoint on the design I wanted." Chelsea, Bride

"We did just four fittings, most of them online. He took my measurements over our first meeting, sent me a mock up of the dress in a very light lining-type fabric. I sent it back with my comments. We did an in-person fitting the first time I saw the actual dress and I was so happy with it." Chelsea, Bride

"I decided I could still squeeze an after party dress in the budget. I reached out to my designer to make me a mini with feather details—a reimagining of my feather dress dreams." Chelsea, Bride

"Don’t worry so much about looking timeless, there’s no such thing. I don’t want to look at my wedding photos 30 years from now and think it looks like it could have been taken that same day. I want it to reflect this era in our lives, I want to remember this time for how it was." Chelsea, Bride
