Choose the Right Base

Makeup starts with the base such as foundation, concealer, or BB cream. Choose the appropriate base that is suitable for your skin type, and which you prefer wearing. But for an everyday look, you don’t necessarily need to cover up your entire face. Conceal only the critical areas like under the eyes. The most important thing to remember is to avoid looking cakey!

I recommend using a tinted sunscreen not only because it gives sun protection, but more importantly, it provides good coverage that evens out the complexion. If foundation is preferred, choose one with a lightweight formula. You can also try using medium to full coverage foundation as concealer as it is easier to blend on the skin.

It’s key to invest in good base products because they will set the tone for the rest of your makeup. These include your primer, foundation, concealer, sunscreen, powder, etc. You don’t need to have all of those, but finding your holy grail base products is life-changing.

My fave trick is mixing your moisturizer and foundation or concealer to create your own tinted moisturizer. It hydrates your face while giving you healthy looking skin, and it saves time! Another is for oily gals like me, spritz your setting spray right after you apply your foundation then another after you set it with your translucent powder to minimize the powdery look. This trick is a life saver! Keeps the oil at bay.

Less is More
For an everyday makeup look, you don’t need to apply so many layers of products. Less is definitely more, so just stick to the basic products that work for you like your base makeup, brow gels or pens, liners, and lip tints. A fresh and natural look can be achieved with fewer products.

Go for less layers as much as possible. Applying foundation all over the face is not always the best option so try concealing what needs to be corrected first like under the eyes, sides of the nose, dark spots and blemishes. If you can get away without any foundation and just spot concealing, even better. When retouching the face, always blot with tissue before applying a thin layer of powder to avoid cakeyness.

You don’t need that many makeup products, you just need to find the ones that work the best for your skin type, facial features and lifestyle. For makeup application, a tip is to start with light layers and slowly build the product. It’s easier to keep adding than to put on too much too soon and have to start all over again if you mess up. Also, blend, blend, blend! It will make your makeup look more polished and natural.

Prioritize Skincare
The best way to achieve flawless makeup is by having healthy skin. Your face is the canvas, and by keeping your skin hydrated and cared for, makeup will stay in place more.

Remember, good makeup always starts with a good skin condition. Prioritize finding the right skin care routine for you. Do your morning skin care routine before applying makeup. This will prep your skin and keep it hydrated for a healthy looking base.

Something I cannot stress enough is that if skin is not properly cared for it will not hold make-up well. You need to commit to a skincare regimen that works for you so you get to see better results when you apply makeup. Make sure your face is well hydrated before applying makeup.

Equip Yourself with Must-Have Basic Makeup Products
You will never go wrong with defined brows, a natural flush on the cheeks, and some color on the lips! You don’t need several products in your makeup kit, just the basics which are suited for your skin would be enough.

If I were in a situation where I only need to bring five products that would be moisturizer, concealer, brow pen, translucent powder and cheek and lip tint or cream.

Some of my suggested staples are a reliable base such as foundation, tinted moisturizer, tinted sunscreen, bb cream, concealer, powder as well as brow products, blush, lipstick, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara. You can also explore multi-use products such as tints or creams that can be used as eyeshadows, blush, and lip color if you want to have even fewer products in your kit.

Define Your Facial Features
An everyday makeup look should also make you feel beautiful and confident! Enhance and define your facial features like your eyes, brows, and lips and focus on bringing out that glow. Makeup serves to highlight your beautiful face and not hide it!

Focus on defining the eyes, brows, and lashes because those truly elevate the look making sure that there's still some 'drama' even with minimal skin makeup  Choose fresh colors like peach and pink tones on the lips and cheeks for a more youthful glow.

Minimal eye makeup, a well blended blush for a natural looking flush, not so defined contour, and a lightweight lipstick are always a go-to!
