7 Smart and Practical Tips for Planning Your Wedding

It has been said time and again: Wedding planning can be a pretty daunting task. With a million little details to consider, even just starting can be overwhelming. But worry not, because Bride and Breakfast is here to help! We’ve listed down a few tips to help kickstart your wedding planning journey. Read on below!

1. Have a checklist

Scour the internet with the most basic things you need for a wedding: your suppliers, the venue, your outfits, etc. Identify what’s important to you, and make the add-ons in the process. Consider asking for advice from some your recently married friends so that they can lend you a hand. But it’s important to note that wedding planning is quite a unique journey for everyone. You may not have to tick all the boxes on the checklists you find online, which is why it might also be nice to consider making your own.

2. Start your wedding planning journey early

While this largely depends on how you’ll be celebrating your big day, it’s always a good idea to start as soon as you’re able! This is especially true if you want to hold a destination wedding. Planning for your wedding early gives you ample time to prepare, and lessens the stress that come with planning things last minute. We’re sure you wouldn’t want to rush the preparations!

3. Hire a good wedding coordinator

A good wedding coordinator will also take a huge weight off your shoulders! There’s one during the whole wedding planning process and another during the day itself. You can either opt for just one or both, depending on the time you have. This is great for couples who are busy since they’ll know that things are still being worked on even if they have a 9-5 job.

4. Create a timeline, and be studious in sticking to it

Now, starting early doesn’t mean you have the luxury to procrastinate! It would be nice if you also followed a certain timeline when planning your wedding. Know what you’re doing six to eight months before, five months before, three months, and so on.

5. Stop looking after you make decisions

One of the things that confuse brides is the mere fact that there are a lot of options out there. There’s just so much to see, try on, and experiment with! But once you’ve locked down on something, close that chapter and move on to another area of wedding planning. For example, after choosing the perfect types of flowers that your stylist will decorate your venue with, it might help if you focus on cakes next, depending on what you want to focus on. If you keep on looking for flowers, you may start to doubt the choice you made and end up thinking twice about it.

6. Cut down costs by prioritizing what you need

Identify the key areas that you absolutely cannot do without. If it’s the dress, try to see if other areas of the wedding can compromise in terms of budget in order to make way for getting the dress you want. Or maybe it’s the flowers and styling–you may want everything else to be pretty simple, and make the aesthetic your focus.

7. Don't compare (and don't panic!)

Lastly, make sure that you’re happy! It’s easy to get caught up with the comments and suggestions of other people, but the most important thing is to communicate with your partner about what both of you want, and make it happen. You’re getting married to the love of your life, and that’s what you should focus on! Don’t worry, we’re pretty sure everything will turn out alright.
