The Cost of Style

I know everyone is probably expecting photos of a gorgeous wedding, but I decided to share a few words just for today! I’ve received a lot of emails asking me for tips on how to style their wedding. Honestly, each time I read them, I find myself at a loss for words. First of all, blushing brides-to-be must understand that styling is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight or through an exchange of one or two emails. A effortlessly-looking-oh-so-stylish affair could have taken hours, days or months of brainstorming. I don’t say this to discourage brides who feel they don’t know where to begin. Instead, I just want to get the reality out there that it you want a stylish wedding, whether D.I.Y. or conceptualized by your dream team, it will need patience, time and that extra effort (even maybe a few tears shed here and there).

  1. If you don’t have the budget for it, a tip I can share is go to friends who have an eye for details. Make sure though that you trust their taste–otherwise, you will find yourself battling over who gets to decide on the style.
  2. Prepare a mood board (a big one!) and clip pegs that will show bits and pieces of your wedding (ex. entourage gowns, fabric swatches, photos of bouquets, etc.). It helps to see how things will fit well together.
  3. It’s all in the small details so don’t forget the little things. Place cards, sign boards and ring pillows are just a few details that might add the “wow” effect to your big day.
  4. If you don’t have time for any of this, hire a stylist! Time is gold. You just might find yourself frustrated if you try to do everything on your own. Wedding preps should be fun and not traumatic. There are so many up-and-coming stylists out there, just keep looking until you find one that will fit your budget.
