When the Bridal Makeup Artist Becomes the Bride: Let’s Talk About Iya Gueco’s Beautiful Wedding!

It’s Iya Gueco’s turn to be seated on the makeup chair as a Bride herself! As a makeup artist, she has been playing a valuable role in making so many dream weddings come true. That fact, in my opinion, makes having her own wedding day come to life extra special. Of course we’re also excited about seeing Iya’s bridal look! So, let’s get into the details, shall we?

Iya shares a few behind the scenes stories from her big day as well as some very useful wedding planning tips! Enjoy reading all about them as you scroll through these photos by Oak St. Studios.

Kim and Iya

“I can say that I finally understand what my brides mean when they tell me that ‘it still hasn’t sunk in yet’ while we’re doing their makeup,” Iya muses. “It really didn’t sink in right away that we were doing my actual bridal look!” This bride was the epitome of calm, though, especially because she had highly-trusted suppliers keeping her relaxed and comfortable throughout the day.

“Lady Bernabe did my makeup and Renzo Lusterio did my hair. Both of them are close friends of mine, so I felt very comfortable with them. We tend to play around with hair and makeup during our free time, so it somehow felt like one of those moments,” says Iya.

Speaking of hair and makeup, we know and love Iya for her fresh-faced glam that highlights the bride’s natural beauty. So, for her own bridal look, Iya also expresses her signature clean and subtle style. “I like keeping things simple and easy. I just knew I wanted a clean and low maintenance look that I felt comfortable in,” she says.

Iya’s team of suppliers know her very well, so it was easy for her to just sit back and let their talents do the work. She only had one non-negotiable, “I wanted to wear a mantilla veil!” Iya tells us that she fell in love with the idea of wearing a mantilla veil after seeing how beautiful it looks on one of her brides

Pull-Quote: "The mantilla that Jaja of Heleyna Bridal made for me was so beautiful. She had a modern take on it, and it perfectly accentuated my gown. Fun fact! Renzo actually sewed the mantilla into my hair to secure it! Pins would’ve been too visible, and might’ve ruined the details on the mantilla." Iya Gueco

I’m sure you’ll agree that Iya is absolutely breathtaking as a bride! The floral details of her gown stand out against the nude color of the fabric. And that mantilla truly is a dream. What a clever hack of sewing the veil into her hair instead of using pins! Not only is it secure, but it looks so gorgeous flowing down behind Iya.

Apart from the beauty and fashion, Iya makes sure to have all the other important wedding planning details covered. Take some notes, bride-to-be! You might find these tips very useful. First, Iya recommends having a must-have list. “I have pre-made lists of all the things I need to bring. I’m very forgetful, so whenever I suddenly remember something that I might need on my wedding day I put it on my list right away,” she shares. Her five makeup-related must-haves are: Blotting paper, makeup remover, your own set of toiletries, and your usual skin care products.

Another tip is to choose your suppliers really well. Pick the team you can have complete faith in! “Your suppliers will help you get through one of the most hectic days of your life. They will set the mood, shield you from all of the stress, and make sure things go as smoothly as possible.”

Iya also reminds us, “Little mishaps are unavoidable, but as long as you, your husband, and your guests enjoyed the day, the little details shouldn’t really matter.”

Pull-Quote: "Your wedding day will always be perfect in your book, because it’s the day you tied the knot with the love of your life!" Iya Gueco

Finally, after all the preparations have been made, Iya walks down the aisle with only love and joy filling her mind and heart. She shares, “I thought I was going to have an internal monologue about not tripping or having an anxiety attack. Nope. None of that. I looked around and saw the faces of the people we love, my parents with my little daughter, and Kim crying his heart out while waiting for me at the end of the aisle. It was definitely one of the happiest moments of my life.”
