Growing up as the daughter of a Lieutenant Colonel in the Philippine Army, Frances was all too familiar with the difficulty and sadness that comes along with having a loved one in the military. When her father passed away twelve years ago, she decided that her future partner would not be either a military man or someone stationed overseas. Life, however, seems to have a funny way of sending us what we need, even if it doesn’t immediately look like what we want. In Frances’ case, life sent her exactly what she declared she didn’t want: a military man based in another country. His name was Rommel, a West Point Academy graduate and Captain in the United States Army.
You could say it was fate that brought these two together, or perhaps even Frances’ father from above. Whatever the reason for their fateful meeting, the two are obviously overjoyed to move forward and spend the rest of their lives together, no matter where Rommel’s post takes him. Their wedding, held in Tagaytay, was less about formality, glitz, and glam, and more about having a great time with family and friends who travelled from all over to celebrate their love. In these photos captured by The PaperProject, you’ll see how the couple put together a meaningful wedding celebration (honoring Frances’ father’s memory) and made sure that they enjoyed the best snacks (San Mig and fries, anyone?) and fun games (read: Bride vs. Groom beer pong!) over cocktail hour.
It’s stories like Rommel and Frances’ that show us how love will always find a way.
