This Couple Held a Virtual Blessing After Two Failed Wedding Attempts!

During the unusually challenging time many soon-to-wed couples find themselves in, their stories of love and persistence shine through. Today, we’ll share with you the story of Marvin and Chari, who after two wedding postponements, decided to rely on technology to bind their love together through a virtual ceremony! While the online service can’t replace the formal Catholic wedding done inside the Church, it was very important for the couple to receive a spiritual blessing from their priest with their immediate family as witnesses. The bride, Chari, tells us the story.

"Our original Church wedding was scheduled on March 22, 2020. The first plan was a dreamy, romantic wedding in Antonio’s Tagaytay. But since Taal Volcano erupted, we immediately changed venues to San Agustin Church and Shangri-la Fort."

"Fast forward to two weeks before our wedding, we were tagged as PUIs. There are no words to describe the stress but no doubt health is of utmost importance. We decided to postpone the wedding. We were also overwhelmed with the possibility of being COVID-19 positive so we just decided to quarantine ourselves and wait. Through God’s grace, we are all safe and healthy."

"After postponing the wedding for the second time, we decided to do a civil wedding asap. But the sudden lockdown happened, so no Mayor or Judge could assist us."

"We felt somehow hopeless after not being able to secure a civil wedding, but we still continuously tried to look for other ways that could make it happen for us. A week after our supposed wedding, Fr. Serg confirmed that he can give us the blessing we were looking for. He said that it will not fully replace the Sacrament of Matrimony but it will be a spiritual blessing for both of us. After the lockdown, we will do our civil wedding and hopefully, by end of the year, we can do our Church wedding."

"The online wedding was attended by our immediate families. It was short but truly surreal. Fr. Serg prepared a program prior and our parents were made to read the prayers to bless us both. Our fathers were instructed to bless our rings with the Holy Water. And before we knew it, we were married!"

"God has made the impossible happen for us and so it's our goal to give it back to Him the best way we can. We look forward to contributing to a healthier, kinder, and better world. We can't wait to celebrate with everyone after this lockdown!"

While Marvin and Chari wait for their actual Church wedding to happen, they now have the peace of mind and heart knowing that they are indeed married in Spirit. Here are some beautiful snaps from their engagement shoot in Bali to remind them that better days are coming.

      1. Hi Shy! I’m sorry, but I’m not familiar with the binding laws in the Netherlands or in Saudi. Best to ask your friend who they consulted with regarding the validity of virtual weddings in those countries. Thanks!
