A Unique Coffee-Themed Wedding!

PJ and Syril took their love for coffee to the next level by turning their wedding into a coffee lover’s paradise! They wanted their formal event to still feel laidback and cozy so they made sure that the vibe of the entire celebration was like a coffee shop. Bags and buckets of coffee beans were placed on every table, along with matching pastries. And instead of plain table numbers, this couple used the names of coffee drinks as labels. The best part is that the delicious scent of coffee was wafting through the air. To top it all off, free flowing coffee was served during dinner! We simply admire this couple’s creativity and how they turned their wedding into a one-of-a-kind experience. Check out how PJ and Syril brewed their special day as you scroll through these photos by Proud Rad.

"Majority of our guests are coffee-lovers. Most of them said they love the uniqueness of our theme. Though we asked them to wear formal attire, they still felt the laidback vibe of the celebration because of the coffee shop ambiance." Syril, Bride

What’s the story behind your coffee-themed wedding? How did you come up with this fun theme?
“Back in 2010, we used to work under the same corporation and travel home together riding the same shuttle service. There was one time, PJ had to do some fieldwork so we agreed to meet at the mall after office hours. When I rendezvoused with him as planned, I saw him holding a stem of Tulip in one hand and a grande size Java Chip in the other. That romantic gesture really got me and made me swoon over him.

A coffee shop has been and will always be the best place for our deep, gaze-into-each-other’s-eyes-over-the-table conversations. Every coffee date becomes our “we” time when we just enjoy the moment with each other.”

How would you describe your personalities, interests, and love for coffee?
“Comparing our love to hot coffee, we’d love to consider ourselves as having warm and generous hearts. Our family and friends can affirm that we’re the type of couple others want to be around. Like caffeine, which even a small dose of can increase positivity, we’re a happy pair and our positive energy makes us very easy to be around.

We have a laid back nature and we don’t worry about overanalyzing every decision we make. As cream-and-sugar coffee drinkers, we both have somewhat of a dual personality. On one hand, we are organized and put-together. On the other hand, we both love to cut loose and get a little messy. Each day, we try to strike the perfect balance between our rational and creative sides.

Our love for coffee is like this: our minimalist side enjoys the taste of coffee and our spontaneous side loves the sweet taste of sugar and richness of cream. With our coffee cups in hand, we believe we’re ready to have fun and productive days ahead of us.”

"The aroma of the coffee beans, creatively arranged on the stage and table centerpieces, filled the place and the guests--even the suppliers raved about this." Syril, Bride

How did your guests react to the theme?
“Majority of our guests are coffee-lovers. Most of them said they love the uniqueness of our theme. Though we asked them to wear formal attire, they still felt the laidback vibe of the celebration because of the coffee shop ambiance. The aroma of the coffee beans creatively arranged on the stage and table centerpieces filled the place and the guests–even the suppliers raved about this. They also liked that we labeled each table with different types of coffee drinks instead of numbering them. Also, we asked the live band (mainly composed of the male entourage plus a few of our other friends) to play romantic love songs while free-flowing coffee was served during dinner. This also gained praise from our beloved guests who said they enjoyed every detail of our theme.”

"Sometimes it’s easy to forget that your wedding day is YOUR wedding. Instead of stressing about what you think your guests want, do what you want. The awesome thing about having a unique theme is that you can do whatever you wish." Syril, Bride

What can you share with other couples about choosing a unique theme for their wedding?
“Sometimes it’s easy to forget that your wedding day is your wedding. Instead of stressing about what you think your guests want, do what you want. The awesome thing about having a unique theme is that you can do whatever you wish. However, if you are stumped and don’t know where to get started, you may start by eliminating some traditions that you don’t want in your ceremony or reception program. If you don’t want to have fresh flowers or the accustomed set of entourage or the usual throwing of bouquet and garter, you don’t have to. You are in control and you may eliminate any of those traditional elements but it’s still best to seek approval from the church or officiant about it. You may also seek assistance from your wedding coordinator and let their team handle it for you. As a general rule of thumb, especially if you’re planning for a unique theme, don’t assume and expect that all your suppliers know what you want. They don’t know what you’re thinking or envisioning, so be clear and thorough in your communication. If possible, get everything documented. Take down notes before you sign and give a down payment. Be fully informed, so that there are no unexpected stuff on the wedding day. The last thing you want are surprises on your big day. So if you have a question, don’t be afraid to ask it. Once you’ve chosen your wedding suppliers and you’re all on the same page, relax, and trust them to do their job. Trying to control them is just going to make your day more stressful. Let your professionals take charge so you can enjoy your big day.

Always bear in mind that your wedding day is all about you and your spouse and the love you share, so take a deep breath and think about what is actually more important than your wedding theme.”

    1. Thank you Tito Aki! Though we didn’t have plenty of time to think through my bridal hairstyle and I just showed you a photo for inspiration, you were still able to pull off my lovely bun with that nice hair accessory. To think, you just assembled the accessory on-the-spot after I handed you the coffee fruits and flowers while Ms. Ais was doing my make up. We are very delighted with the way our crowning glory look on our wedding day. Thank you so much po! 💓
